1. Introduction

The National Engineering Research Center for Oil & Gas Drilling Equipment (hereinafter referred to as the Center) was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in December 2011 and independently established by Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd., and is the only national engineering technology research center in China's oil and gas drilling equipment industry. The Center's competent departments are the Department of Science and Technology of Shaanxi Province and the Science and Technology Management Department of China National Petroleum Corporation, the director of the Center is Zhang Bin, deputy general manager and chief engineer of Baoji Oilfield Machinery Co., Ltd., and the director of the Technical Committee is Luo Pingya, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

The Center is based on the national energy strategy development needs, targets the global development trends of high-end oil and gas drilling equipment, aims to break through the industry commonness, key and core technologies and to develop high-end equipment with excellent performance and high reliability, carries out research and tackles key problems focusing on the high-end land and offshore oil and gas drilling equipment, the drilling equipment automatic control, drilling and completion operation tools, key equipment for unconventional oil and gas exploration and development, drilling equipment and new materials, etc., cultivates and gathers the high-quality and high-level innovative professional talent team, leads and promotes the overall development and progress of China's oil and gas drilling equipment industry.

At present, the Center has 333 staff, including 241 permanent staff and 92 visiting and mobile staff. In the permanent staff, 2 experts enjoy the special allowance by the State Council; 4 senior technical experts are from China National Petroleum Corporation; 98 staff have senior professional titles and above, and 77 staff have the master degree or above.

4. Scientific Research Equipment

The Center has more than 380 sets of computer and auxiliary equipment with complete supporting facilities and more than 30 sets of domestic leading or international advanced key testing equipment such as the riser fatigue test device, the deep sea high-pressure simulation test chamber, the subsea wellhead bending load test bench and so on, and has built 3 key research and development test platforms to support the reliability research of the offshore drilling equipment and the test of the drilling rig automatic control system, and the Center's overall equipment has reached the domestic leading level.

5. Innovation Results

(1) Undertaken Projects

Since the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the Center has undertaken 11 state-level projects, including the National "863" Program, the National Science and Technology Major Projects, and so on, and dozens of provincial-level projects such as the major scientific and technological projects of China National Petroleum Corporation and Shaanxi Province, has made major breakthroughs in the offshore deep-water drilling rig, drill string automatic handling, drilling rig integrated control, drilling rig fast movement, marine drilling risers, offshore drilling heave compensation, offshore platform cranes, etc., and has played an important leading role in problem tackling and application of key technologies in the industry.

(2) Key Scientific and Technological Achievements

① Won one National Science and Technology Progress Award, 12 provincial and ministerial level science and technology progress awards and one National Key New Product Recognition Award.

② Participated in the formulation of one international standard, presided over or participated in the formulation and revision of more than 60 national standards and petroleum industry standards.

③ Obtained more than 400 patent authorizations and national software copyright registrations.
